Mighty vibrations emanate from the get-go on the Telescopes side of this slab. Naturally, you'd expect nothing less. That pounding sound is the relentless dig into the Earth's inner crust: the static hiss of the machinery and deep intonation from Lawrie in search of an inner space, somewhere down there. Dig and ye shall find. Queasy stomachs perhaps best sit this one out, as the divide and conquer routine plays out in full glory.
Flip it over for some majestic yang. The atmosphere is still as claustrophobic, but this drone has had a touch of jazz in its flask. The soundtrack to late night suburban drives to nowhere; a stoned requiem to the Universe of No Fucks Given. It does briefly give light to a crescendo of neon possibilities, before a sharp volte face; climbing aboard a majestic motorcycle for some final Ballardian trip to the set of Drive.
'The Living Things' / 'von Trier Flakes' is out September 27th on mpls ltd. Listen below.
